Lighthouse Christian Academy began as a nursery school in 1976 as a ministry of
Pleasant View Baptist Church. With an enrollment of ten children and two staff members, Lighthouse Christian Academy began its journey to become a full preschool through 12th grade program. Our preschool now has an enrollment of 93 students, 2-4 years old. It employs 15 full and part time teachers and staff. Our preschool students use Abeka Curriculum. By the time they are ready to enroll in kindergarten, our preschoolers have learned to recognize the alphabet and their sounds, numbers, the primary colors, and they can print their names. Our 2 – 4 year olds enjoy attending chapel every Wednesday morning where they learn Bible stories and sing Bible songs. Also in our preschool program, Lighthouse Christian Academy has an enrollment of 62 students who attend before and after care. These children are kept busy with activities, games, snacks and a quiet time to do their homework. In 1992, our K-12th grade program began with seven students as a tutoring center. By the third year, we had 27 students. In 1995, the school became acquainted with a teaching method called, “The Principal Approach.” This method of teaching takes all learning back to the Bible with the Bible being the principle textbook. As each year passed, more students were enrolled, more teachers and staff were added and more classroom space became needed. Lighthouse Christian Academy flourished and grew as the community became aware of this very important educational resource. When Pleasant View Baptist Church moved to its new facility on Downin Lane in 2001, Lighthouse Christian Academy was given full use of the former church building and the Ark. With some renovations, we were now able to accommodate our ever growing school! Classrooms were added in the main building and the Ark became available for gym, health, art and music classes, as well as the lunch room for the entire upper academy student body. Today, Lighthouse Christian Academy has 150 students in grades K – 11. Next year we expect a total enrollment of 170 as we add our first senior class. LCA’s current K-11 program employs 25 teachers and staff. When we combine our preschool and K-11 enrollments, we have approximately 300 students and 40 teachers and staff on the LCA campus every day! These 340 students, faculty, and staff represent 28 churches in the Harford and Cecil county area! Lighthouse Christian Academy is committed to excellence as we serve our community and our students with the finest in Christian education. Our goal for the future is to see LCA become the most desired school for parents to enroll their children and to see our young men and women become the next generation of spiritual leaders in our community. It is our desire to equip them to do so by offering the best in academics and by instilling in them Godly principles for a successful and fulfilling life. God is doing a mighty work at Lighthouse Christian Academy. Your prayers and financial support are so very much appreciated as we grow and expand and as our community looks to us to offer their children a unique and valuable Christian education.
